Logistics 4.0
Logistik 4.0
Logistics 4.0 stands for the networking and integration of logistics processes - inside and outside of production plants or trading companies - up to decentralized real-time control of logistics networks.
Part of a logistics 4.0 solution is a Cyber Physical System (CPS) consisting of embedded systems that are networked with each other via communication networks. "Endpoints" are thereby humans and material. But also assistance systems as well as devices with local intelligence and decision-making capabilities (e.g. detectors, cameras, self-propelled cars) are part of it.
The networking of logistics processes enables better supply chain visibility with more transparency in the supply and shipping chain. In the longer term, however, the cargo itself could also become intelligent and autonomously organize its own transport.
The goals of Logistics 4.0 are cross-company automation and optimization, both in material flows and in the use of resources in inbound and outbound logistics. As a condition and consequence at the same time, a flexibilization of processes, business models and partner networks is created in interaction.
The rule of thumb is: The more innovative information and communication technologies are used throughout an interactive supply chain, the greater the potential for use. This also includes robust mobile devices and corresponding apps mobile enterprise technologies, which can be used to accelerate digitization right down to the last link in the logistics chain by seamlessly integrating employees on site.
